REVIEW:
“The common belief is that when it comes to cars, women should leave it to the men. But why should that be? Anyone who went to school with boys knows that we girls are just as capable as they are, if not more so. What’s more, the notion of “leaving it to the men” also assumes every woman who has a car has a reliable man in her life….” Danielle McCormick
My own take on that is that at the age of 50, I now also realise there is never a man around when you need one!!
When I first began to review this book, my immediate thought was “I wish I could have given a copy to my sons along with their first cars." The content is excellent. They definitely would not have appreciated this Pink ‘chick’ book though. Maybe Danielle will come out with a “Me and my first car mate!” version for all the young blokes.
The reality is many young men do not have their Dad’s around to enlighten them on car basics. There’s always us though girls - if we can get out of our comfort zones! Let’s get informed!
Inside you’ll find out: How your car actually works; what to do when things go wrong; how to pin point problems; car maintenance musts; learning the lingo (so your mechanic doesn’t try to get one over on you), perfect car grooming tips; even how to buy and sell your car.
My one and only wee gripe is that in one particular story, we are advised that we will need to find a kind person with a car that has a fully charged battery and a good pair of jumper leads. (A shirtless male jumps to the resuce)
My own opinion is that every woman should have jumper leads in their car boot at all times. You never know when WE can be the one able to help out. The last few times I have needed jumper leads – I haven’t been able to locate a man (or woman) who has them! So don’t leave it to risk I say!
Personally I am of the ilk that I’d rather look helpless until a knight in shining armour arrives to do the ‘man stuff’. Having said that - I also like to be as informed as possible. That way, at least if I choose not to get my hands dirty, I can sound intelligent whilst being rescued - by the man of the moment!
This gem of a book is a perfect gift for your self, your daughter or mother. The photos are gorgeous and very female friendly. If you can get past the long legs and PC mentality - you will realise this is pitched commercially and is perfect for the younger woman. However it truly is a book that needs to be in every woman’s glove box.
