Below are aromatherapy tips provided weekly by Bo Hendgen from Absolute Essential Limited

This week's aromatic tip:   Natural Moisturising Cream

How about something real special for your mum, something hand made, something just for her. It will simply take you a few raw materials, a couple of clean utensils & 30 minutes of your time. If your mum is "worth it", give her this natural gift to enhance her beauty & health.
Natural Moisturising Cream:   Ingredients for 100gm

Shea Butter * (Butyrosperum tarkii) 30gm
Rose Hip Oil* org. (Rosa rubiginosa / mosqueta) 20ml
Jojoba Oil* organic (Simmondsia chinensis) 40ml
    Beeswax 10gm
Rose Oil* org. (Rosa centifolia) 5 drops
Geranium Rose* o (Pelargonium roseum) 3 drops
Sandalwood* extra o (Santalum album) 2 drops

Heat Shea Butter to melting point & warm the Rose HIp & Jojoba Oil to 40 degrees (so it feels warm when you touch it with your little finger). Blend together using a whisk at fairly high speed for 1 minute (like making mayonaise). Whisk every 3 minutes until cool. Add Essential Oils when the mixture has cooled to around 25 degrees. Whisk gently & put into a cosmetic cream pot, as stylish or simple as your mum likes them. This cream smells delicious, is very nourishing for the skin & what's best is it is natural, as you know you made it!

If you make small amounts, there is no need for a preservative, however I do recommend a few drops of Geranium Rose to ensure no bugs grow in it.

And if she does not want to give up her expensive, favourite face creams ... she can use the cream as a natural hand cream. Did you think it was that easy? It's fun to make too, try it.

Blackheads
What is a blackhead?

Apart from being non-desirable, a blackhead is what develops in a pore when there is excess oil that has trapped dead skin cells and dirt and the pore becomes blocked. So how do we avoid it?

· Ensure all traces of make-up, creams and day to day dirt are removed from your face, (prior to bedtime), no exceptions!
· Use a toning solution after your regular cleanser, such as our Neroli Hydrosol which is slightly astringent, but not drying as it does not contain alcohol.
· Cleanse the face before and after participating in any aerobic activity, such as running.
· Use a mild scrub or skin exfoliant weekly.
· Treat your skin with a weekly clay face mask to deep cleanse the pores and nourish for a youthful complexion.

Clay mask recipe: 3 tsp Argyle pure white clay powder mixed to a smooth paste with 15-30ml water or rose hydrosol, then add 10-12 drops jojoba oil or rosehip oil. Apply to face for 10-15 mins.
This French white Argyle clay is famous for its toxin-drawing properties. It assists in repairing tissue as well as being very effective for oily or acne-prone skin. Jojoba oil is known for its ability to unblock pores as well as soften and moisturise your skin, while rosehip oil will make the appearance of large pores smaller.  Therefore, together they are the perfect combination for a fresh and youthful complexion.

Tone and Slim

If it sounds too good to be true ... it usually is.

Even this fantastic essential oil will not be able to work wonders on its own; it needs your support. So get “walking the talk” and exercise to get the heart pumping and the body sweating. Add to this a healthy diet including lots of fruit and veggies and only a little coffee and alcohol (as we can’t be too serious) and you will have a much better chance of a successful result.  So what is the secret oil?

  • Grapefruit (Citrus paradisii) essential oil: Apply 10 drops to a wet face cloth and rub vigorously over the body in areas you wish to reduce, re-distribute and remove.

Repeat daily, preferably before and after exercise, as the increased circulation to the area assists with the process.

Naturally drink plenty of water before, during and after to ensure your kidneys are flushed clean.

NOTE: Safe during pregnancy if 1/2 the dosage is used.

"Thinking Clearly" with too much happening?

Here is a little assistance to get you going again.

Feeling a little bit frazzled this time of year, with too much to organise, or from partying too much as we get closer to Christmas, (including consuming too many mood enhancing substances like food & wine). Here are a few tips to get you alert & focused again.

* Rosemary (Rosemarinus officinalis) is well known for its energy promoting properties, just like a cup of coffee, blending this with...
* Basil (Ocimum basilicum), which sharpens concentration you will get the pleasant feeling of clarity & focus.

So add 5 drops of Rosemary & 2 of Basil to your diffuser or tissue, keep it close by & refresh every 2 hours. Alternatively our Synergy Brainpower is designed to wake up the powers of the brain & enhances your memory.

With this tip in mind you will be "Thinking Clearly" when you pull yourself out of bed in the morning after an enjoyable evening.

Aromatip: Scent of Christmas

Being European-born, I associate Christmas with mulled wine, the warming smell of cinnamon bark, cardamon and allspice biscuits. It also means Christmas markets with slushy snow plus loud sales people offering their wares and deliciously sticky candied apples. Feeling peckish yet?
Having been in New Zealand for 22 years, Christmas has now become the season of strawberries and champagne, beach barbeques and, of course, the New Zealand homemade pavlova. Whatever the Christmas traditions you have adopted, when family gathers, defuse the tensions and create an atmosphere of joy and ease with a blend of:
* 5 drops geranium (pelargonium graveolens)
* 2 drops cinnamon leaf (cinnamomum verum.)
* 3 drops frankincense (boswellia carterii)
Refresh your diffuser every few hours to keep the scent alive.

Conjunctivitis

A common infection of the eye, it occurs in babies, children and adults across the board.
Signs and symptoms of conjunctivitis are pink, itchy eyes with a gritty feel to them, especially first thing in the morning, with crusted eyelids caused by the discharge. Conjunctivitis is contagious from one eye to the other and from one person to another. Therefore avoid sharing towels and face cloths. Here is a tip to tend to this problem naturally:
· Make a cup of pure chamomile tea
· Allow to cool and add 25ml of pure lavender floral water
· Soak a cotton wool pad in this mixture and rest it on the eye for 5-10 minutes.
· For children and babies, wipe gently over eyes 3 times daily until infection subsides.
Or you can utilise our ready-to-use product called Eye Soothe: safe for use on babies and in pregnancy.

Build Up Your Immunity

Build up your immunity―it’s essential for a long and healthy life. John, the Tasmanian cattle farmer told us this great story: “Ten years ago I had an epiphany while repairing some very rusty fencing on a hill on the East Coast of Tasmania. I came to a section of Kunzea trees (Australian Kanuka) that were leaning on the fence. As I began to cut them back to free the fence, I noticed that the section of the fence, previously covered by the trees, looked shiny and new. This provoked a thought process about how to utilise the antioxidant benefits of these plants and extract the oil for human use.”
Since then much research has been carried out with astonishing results. Below we share with you a quick immune building routine, the key to a long and healthy life.

• During winter add 10 drops kanuka (leptospermum ericoides) to your bath twice per week.
• To avoid catching ‘bugs’ from others, rub 10 drops of kanuka up and down your spine, before you go to bed at night.
• Take 1 drop of kanuka and 1 drop of peppermint (mentha piperita) on 1/2 teaspoon of honey twice per day after your meal; a refreshing antioxidant boost from the inside, repeating 2-4 times per year for 10 days.

CAUTION: Recipes apply to the use of Absolute Essential medicinal grade pure essential oils only. Wishing you a long and healthy life.

Wound Healing

Scrapes and scratches are a daily occurrence when you have kids or live in the country with animals (like me). Some people suffer from cuts and wounds because of bad circulation e.g. bedsores and ulcers caused by diabetes. These need to be attended to with common sense and natural first aid to avoid infections.

I detail below a simple homemade aromatic antiseptic solution that I have found useful. Blend together:

· 1-2 cups warm water· pinch of sea salt· 5 drops of Lavender True* (lavandula angus. maillette) pure essential oil· 3 drops of Myrrh* organic (commiphora abyssinica) pure essential oil. Use this to wash the area twice a day. Once the wound is clean, apply some of our Skin Repair Cream* and leave it to heal naturally.

Now, if I had to ‘rave on’ about the benefits of one of our products, it has to be the Skin Repair Cream. It has been known to convert the critics of natural products. We have successfully applied it to anything that you might call a sore, including an open wound, with great results, as well as a persistent and permanent wound.

Try it ! It’s soooooo soothing and assists healing so quickly that it’s a miracle.

 Tranquility in Life

It was once said, “A tranquil heart gives life to the body”. Peace and tranquility are things we all strive to enjoy, the rewards of which are positivity and energy within. As it is easier said than done, here are a few things which we do and that work:

  • Watch a comedy
  • Listen to your favourite music
  • Diffuse your favourite scent
  • Focus on what you have
  • Say thank you and be grateful
  • Smile as often as possible
  • Do one act a day for others.

We recommend our fabulous Tranquility Synergy & Massage Oil to appeal to your senses. In fact one of our team enjoys it so much she wears it as a perfume on her pulse points.

Nausea; feeling sick in the stomach?

The stomach is the centre of the body where we relate to the world, feeling equal with people, and also where we experience a sense of power and self definition. This might be the reason why we feel physically sick when we receive bad news; or we lose our appetite, or the complete opposite for some of us, ‘overeat’ when we are upset, indulging in ice cream or chocolate. Sound familiar?

If, however, the simple thing of motion sickness bothers you while travelling either in the car or on a boat, try the following recipe:

*Rub 2 drops of ginger (zingiber officinalis) and 4 drops of spearmint (mentha spicata) pure essential oils onto your solar plexus area, (just where the ribs come together underneath your chest area). Repeat as required.
*Often one application achieves a result. It is preferable to apply this at an early stage to avoid getting really sick.

NOTE: You may use this to ease nausea due to pregnancy but at half the dosage.

We also recommend our Solar Chakra Oil for its body balancing effect. For more information visit our website www.absoluteessential.com.

Ageing Naturally

There is another meaning to the saying ‘beauty from within’, not unlike the saying ‘we are what we eat’. I think a great testimony to this is the ‘glow of a pregnant woman’ or ‘a young couple in love’. It's beautiful, because it is natural and healthy. Healthy people shine and the maturing years can become natural and beautiful too. Essentially we are looking at boosting our reserves of collagen and elastin and should look to nature for answers. I believe the answers lie within the following four cold-pressed and organic oils.

•    Evening primrose oil* (oenothera biennis)
•    Avocado oil* virgin (persea americana)
•    Jojoba oil* golden (simmondsia chinensis)
•    Rose hip oil* green (rosa rubiginosa/mosq.)

Use them daily as follows:

·    Add 10 drops of EPO to your muesli or salad.

·    Prior to exposing your skin to the elements, rub jojoba onto the face and hands for an additional layer of protection.

·    Make yourself a nourishing body oil (feeding the skin cells, building up collagen and elastin) by combining: avocado 60%, jojoba 25%, rose hip 15%, then rub all over your body after your shower at night.

Enjoy being Mature and Beautiful.

Relief From Thrush

Here is some vital information for relief from an annoying, sometimes painful problem.

First of all some preventative tips:
* Avoid perfumed and coloured soaps
* Try not to wear tight pants
* Avoid wearing pantyhose
* Use sanitary pads, not tampons.

The remedy: Mix well together
* 1 tsp of pure aloe vera gel
* 3 drops of manuka essential oil (leptospermum scoparium)
* Smear liberally onto a mini tampon and insert into the vagina
* Leave in place for 1 hour max
* Repeat up to 3 times a day, depending on severity.

Ensure that the pure aloe vera gel is clear in colour and has no fragrance; if not, you will be putting into your system exactly what may have caused the problem, ie synthetic perfumes and colouring. The plant may be green, but the pure and therapeutic gel is most definitely NOT GREEN.

CAUTION:  This treatment IS NOT SUITABLE to be left in place overnight.

Mental Clarity

Sharpen up your mental clarity using aromatherapy, tips by Dr Bo Hendgen Have you ever been introduced to a new person and forgotten their name a few seconds later? As the body ages, the sharpness and edge we had in our youth slowly diminishes. Try these essential oils to help improve mental clarity and memory. Remember, therapeutic scent is the only medicine that can enter directly into the olfactory centre in the brain.

Add 5 drops of each of the essential oils below to a diffuser near your workstation or on a tissue in the car. This will keep you awake and focused for hours. Alternatively, rub 1-2 drops on the inside of the wrist and the neck to achieve the same effect.

Rosemary cineol organic (rosmarinus officinalis cineol) This uplifting and lively scent strengthens the willpower, lifting mental fatigue, increases creativity and improves memory. It's better than coffee, so keep a bottle for long journeys in your car.
Basil organic (ocimum basilicum var. album) helps to clarify the intellect and sharpens concentration. A saviour when mental fatigue and exhaustion make deadlines hard to meet.

For a ready-to-use blend we recommend our Mental Clarity. Try it and ‘sharpen up’!

Embrace Your Age - Hormones

Evening primrose oil has been hailed as a ‘must have’ supplement for every woman due to its hormonal balancing properties, especially important for those moving towards menopause. It may assist with the following:
· Soothing dry and flakey skin
· Reducing allergies including reactions of the respiratory system
· Naturally providing essential fatty acids, gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), linoleic acid (LA) and vitamins and minerals
· May give temporary relief from the pain associated with joint stiffness
· May provide relief from symptoms of PMS, including mood swings, depression, abdominal pain, breast tenderness and water retention.
We recommend you buy EPO in liquid form (25ml or 50ml) as it is better for the digestion; (most capsules are made from gelatine) and liquid in glass bottles is more environmentally friendly for the planet.
Use 5-10 drops on your cereal or toast at breakfast and lunch, repeating daily. Keep this product in the fridge for optimum freshness.
So feel good and enjoy life!

Cleaning Naturally

We all know that this is a contradiction in terms, as for some of us, it just seems totally ‘unnatural’ to clean when we could be spending our time going shopping and drinking wine. As a friend once said to me, “it’s one of those things you just have to do, so you just get on with it!” I must admit though, it is satisfying once you see the end result.
So here is a recipe that will not only help you clean naturally, with a delightful, uplifting scent of sweet orange, together with the fresh and antiseptic properties of lemon and the lively, refreshing, antiseptic and antibacterial properties of eucalyptus.
Natural antibacterial spray recipe with absolutely no synthetic additives, parabens, carcinogens, toxins or other nasties found in supermarket cleaners:

· Combine with 1 cup of warm water with 20 drops sweet orange (citrus aurantium), 10 drops lemon (citrus limonum) and 10 drops eucalyptus australiana (eucalyptus radiata) essential oils.
· Mix this up in a jar with a lid and then, using a dropper, add 20 drops to a spray bottle filled with water and spray and wipe.

Chopping boards: Excellent for keeping chopping boards bacteria-free. Spray weekly for this to be effective.
Ants and flies: Don't forget to also spray and wipe the bench surfaces as the limonene in lemon essential oil is an excellent repellent to prevent ants and flies landing.
Easy ... so let's just get on with it!
